Activision said its Call of Duty: WWII reached $1 billion in global sales. It added that its Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2 are no. 1 and no. 2 games in the North American region based on revenue for 2017.
Activision’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, launched in 2016, could not perform well in the marketplace. But its Call of Duty: WWII turned the tables by outperforming the predecessor in initial launch sales.
The California-based video game publisher outlined that Call of Duty has become the bestselling gaming series based on revenue for eight out of past nine years across the world. Moreover, it has been the bestselling game for nine straight years in North America. Call of Duty: WWII became the largest console digital launch in the history of Activision Publishing.
“Call of Duty: WWII is the #1 top grossing console game of the year in North America, and Destiny 2 is #2,” said Eric Hirshberg, Activision Publishing CEO. “That means Call of Duty has been the #1 top grossing console gaming franchise in North America for a staggering nine years in a row, and worldwide eight out of the last nine years. Thank you to our players for your incredible passion and engagement. And thank you to our talented, committed teams all across the globe that make incredible results like this happen.”
Based on number of units sold, Destiny 2 became the biggest PC release ever for Activision Publishing. Furthermore, the company confirmed that its Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy became the top-selling remaster collection in the history of PS4.
