Nintendo Switch became the fastest-selling home gaming console in the U.S. Since its launch in March 2017, the company sold over 4.8 million units in the U.S. alone.
The Nintendo Switch disrupted the tradition of previous home consoles of the firm by enabling gamers to utilize it as a portable player and play games on the move.
Analysts stated that the company turned the tables around by introducing innovation in gaming consoles. Nintendo set the record previously for the fastest-selling gaming console with its Wii. It was launched in 2006 and became one of the best-selling consoles in history across the globe.
However, the company’s next product, the Wii U, could not perform as per raised expectations. This put a lot of pressure on Nintendo to provide an extraordinary device to gamers.
Apart from the best performance in the U.S., Nintendo sold nearly 10 million units across the world in first nine months of its release, according to official figures.
“Over the last two years, Nintendo has managed to completely turn around its business,” said Piers Harding-Rolls, a gaming industry analyst at IHS Technology. “With the Switch, Nintendo astutely used its residual strength in the handheld console market to deliver an innovative and attractive hybrid console strategy.”
Mr. Harding-Rolls credited its flexible design for the huge success of the device. Moreover, he stated its ‘very strong slate’ was another factor playing significant part in its success.
He predicted Japanese gaming giant Nintendo would provide much more in terms of online availability for gamers through console.
