From sharing every bad joke to saying good morning, good afternoon, good evening and good night, WhatsApp groups are flooded with messages, images and videos. More than positive news, relatable funny content or negative news are shared instantly on these groups and illogical conversations are carried out by the group members. These groups have become a tool to hit back at people or mock some of the members. However, the mockery is taken seriously as the public humiliation and retorted back with a pool of messages. The difference of opinion between two must be read by the entire group. It becomes annoying and time-wasting activity. Though personal chat option is available, people do it on the group and flood others’ phones with notifications.
As group chats are flooded with messages from various members and unnecessary messages are shared, users get annoyed and become averse to be included in those groups. However, they may miss some important information if they are not part of those groups. So, WhatsApp has come up with a solution in which only approved admins are able to send messages. WhatsApp attempts to make group chats more appealing and functional than before. The Facebook-owned firm knows that group chats are the huge part of its appeal and attract more users to its platform. It has been adding more features slowly. It has included group description, anti-spam tools, and features that enable users to reply and mention other messages during chats. All these features have made the chatting easier and attractive. This new feature announcement has added another feather in the cap of the app.
WhatsApp said in a blog post, “One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centers, and non-profit organizations. We’ve introduced this new setting, so admins can have better tools for these use cases.”
There are many instances in which group chats have become annoying. One of those instances are sharing bizarre photos of the accident took place at nearby places or CCTV footage of mishaps such as street fights and other crimes. Admins do not have control over this. This can have adverse effects. Moreover, members of the group are discussing those incidents in the chats. Some of the members find it disturbing and there is no option than to leave the group. Some of the members are specialized in sharing specific kind of content. They share only bizarre content or inappropriate jokes that makes some of the members uncomfortable. Group admins have to remove such members from the group. However, there are advantages of the group chat too. It is beneficial to share important information and can be used as a tool to organize people and set up group meetings. In other instances, people may introduce chaos in the group chats.
This new feature will offer control to group admins to make the group clutter-free. To enable this setting, open “Group Info,” press Group Settings, then Send Messages and select “Only Admins.” This setting has been rolled out and the users with the latest versions of the app can enable this setting.
